Teach kids to save with save, spend and share
Three jars make saving something kids can see.
For young kids, money they can see is easier to understand than numbers on a screen. Splitting money into three jars teaches saving, spending and giving all at once.
Set it up
- Label three clear jars: Save, Spend and Share
- Agree how money is split, for example half to Spend and a quarter each to Save and Share
- Let the child pick a saving goal and draw it on the Save jar
- Count the jars together every week
Ideas that help
- Offer a small "match" on savings, like a pretend bank paying interest
- Let them choose where the Share money goes
- When the goal is reached, let them buy it themselves at the store
